Default PR of Home Page lower than internal pages

I just went through a new pageranking experience with Google and found that three internal pages were increased to a PR3 while the home page and other internal pages were increased to a PR of 2.

Any thoughts why the home page has a lower PR than some internal pages?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
We had a site that experienced this same thing and it was due to in bound links.

It's simple the more IBL's you have to pages, the higher the PR. It would seem to me you have people linking to your internal pages.

If that's not the case then google finds the other pages more relevant then your homepage. Either way PR really doesn't matter that much.

This is not necessarily the case. I have found on one of my sites the PR 5's on new pages with no outside IBL's. The pages with slew of links are PR 4's including the home page. The OLB on those are equivilent.

IMO there internal PR of site is somewhat bugged and inaccurate.

DMC_34, it really isn't fair only quoting bits and pieces of posts, interprets what people say out of context. In actuality you are agreeing with the second half of my post.

Hi Matt,

I can see your point and honestly didnt really catch the second part of your post. No harm done.

Not that I am big on PR as I believe it useless. I was merely stressing internal toolbar PR is bugged. There is little doubt in that.

I dont believe relevancy plays a part in PageRank. But let's say it does. My index page has over 1400 links and are mostly "holidays and christmas gift related" I have many related PR 7's, PR 6's, and PR 5's pointing to internal pages specifically on that topic and the home page. All of those links are from high ranking sites with good PR.

Funny how a new page merely 3 weeks old before the update got a PR 5 with 1 external IBL. My link Directory has a PR 5 with no external IBL's. But my index page and christmas internal pages with many links all RELEVANT are PR 4's.

I doubt relevancy plays a part. IMO, Its simply bugged.

I have the same "problem".
My index was a "reasonable" PR 4, as the most important internal pages.
Just few days agoo the index dropped to a PR 1 and some internal pages went up to a PR 5. the most part of the links from other sites (several) are to the index page, not to the internal ones.
It is a fact that my index page is more a presentation of the website, just few photos, a good text pretty well optimized (I hope) and links to few main internal pages and those pages work as web site map to reach all the site features. May be that this is the reason why the different stange pageranks?
Anyway for now my website (index) ranking on gg is the same than before and it is in the forst page for all the relevant keywords combination.

Do you think that I can sleep relaxed of may be that some bad surprise is coming soon?

The website is www.artofvenice.com

Ciao

Alex
