Default Tool Bar dead?

Has this Christmas update affected anyone elses tool bar? It hasn't displayed any page rank for any website since Monday. I even uninstalled it and loaded it again, but nothing.

Is it just me? The last time my toolbar went dead the Florida nightmare was close behind. I hope this isn't a repeat performance.

Same here - my toolbar is working the same way it always has...

Has anything else changed on your system? Added anything? Upgraded anything? What browser are you using? Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the toolbar?

No problems here. Have you recently installed anything new?

Help me out with this Minstrel, I don't remember what thread it was. We were discussing someone's site and the conversation revolved around when Google was going to index it. The site had been active for approximately 6 months and although we found some pages in the index...they were minimal to say the least.

My toolbar was showing No Ranking for the site. Minstrel and one other person's toolbar was showing a PR2 for that same site. The person who raised the question was showing nothing, then later in the thread it was....although a couple of days later I still was not showing anything.

Now that I think about it, in other threads when people are discussing PR of sites and I went to visit those same sites...the PR was not matching up in some cases.

The only thing I can think of is that it depends on what part of the Country you are in. Looking at this poster's location it appears that we are in the same part (I am in Arkansas).

So it may appear that we are getting our toolbar PR from different datacenters. This would make sense.

The odd part about it though is that the two datacenters do not sync up....and if they do, it is taking quite a bit of time to do so.

It would be interesting to track a couple of sites (or several) and have everyone report their findings on those sites.

Default Tool Bar dead?

I'm in the northeast- Boston area. My toolbar is working just fine. No problems after the Florida "snafu". PR increased last week on some pages I'd re-written content for as well.

I haven't added or changed anything in weeks. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the toolbar and I get no changes. I am using IE 6.0 and I haven't done any Windows Updates either.

I have no idea why this is only happening to me, but here is a screenshot to prove I am not losing my mind.

Notice the pagerank section? Completely gray for every place I visit on the web.

I'm not sure if this helps, but here's what I do:

If I can't see a PR from a site, I use the google toolbar to find a long keyword phrase that shows the site that I want to go to. For example, I type in "naples internet marketing" and click on my listing, EyeMagination. Magically, the PR bar shows up for me.

I don't think anyone disbelieves you or thinks you're losing your mind, crane... as Ron says, from time to time others have made similar observations. I don't see any PR for threads on WebProWorld either, although I do if I go to index pages, and I don't think you'll see any PR bar for sites with very low PR, but if you're not seeing it ANYWHERE that's another matter... and I don't know what the answer is...

Try these:

1) Click on the [i] to look at the <cache> of a site - then <back>. Does the PR show after doing that?

2) Try empty cache of IE to see if it helps (I do not think it will).

3) Check toolbar help pages http://toolbar.google.com/help.html

4) Email toolbar-support@google.com for help

Try this also:

1. In the Options for the Google bar, click on the More tab. Down near the bottom there is a checkbox labled Fix PageRank thru Proxies (experimental).

Select/deselect it. Then try again. Repeat the process.

2. Have you installed any other toolbars or IE plugins? I tried some once upon a time, and these can interfere with the functions of other toolbars.

These installed toolbars/plug-ins do not even have to be enabled to interfere with other addins for IE. They are usually badly programmed or mal-ware.

Don't forget to make sure you have the PageRank display option checked. :o)
Did someone already say this?

I appreciate all your help. I tried everyone's ideas on how to get this to work but nothing has been successful.

I did think of one thing that could perhaps be causing the problem. Anyone ever had an issue like this with spyware programs like Spybot or Adaware? I have had a recent surge in spyware and have been deleting tons of files per day.

I'll be damned! I have no idea what it was but I went to MSN and read an article and pressed the back button and for some reason it started working again.

Have to remember MSN articles fix the Google Toolbar? How Ironic???

I run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy regularly - they haven't touched the Google Toolbar and have never even flagged it as questionable.

One thing I wonder about systems where it works as it's supposed or does not:

I have never used the pop-up blocker (my firewall already does a good job there) - could that be a variable?

Just a wild shot...

I use those as well. Best privacy protection on the net! Of course I only use those programs on my windows machine. My Mac doesn't seem to have the same problems expecially when I use Mozilla. The drawback is that Google doesn't make an OSX version of the toolbar. :o(

I use the pop-up blocker and it works wonders! Best one I've used so far. Not a single pop-up window I didn't click on a button or hyperlink to open.

Another option may be his Privacy Settings in the Internet Options in his Control Panel.
