Default Google ranking via Affiliates

Hi all

Its been sometime since I last posted here and in the meantime I have seen some considerable improvement in my sites' ranking with Google. :-)

I just want to know what the deal is with Google rankings and affiliate schemes.

The last time I looked into this, I remember being told that affiliate schemes dont really help with Google rankings. Is this still the consensus?

I currently use ASP.net to drive my server side pages and all affiliates enter my site using a URL like this:

http://www.abc.co.uk/affiliate.aspx?id=xyz

Is there a better way to work this?

Thanks

Default It depends.

It depends on what you're doing with the visitors once they click there. If you leave the query string on the site, that's not going to help. If you set a cookie, then 301 redirect them to the true landing page, that can help quite a bit, depending on the text they used to link to you.

So, how are you handling it?

Brian.

When a user clicks into the site, then a session variable (cookie) is created. The user is then redirected to a specific page by the script (not a 301).

Not sure how I could integrate a 301 redirect into the script.

OK, I've just had a look in Google and found how to cause a 301 redirect with ASP.

http://www.seoconsultants.com/tips/asp/301.asp

I can use this method to redirect users to the correct page.

Thanks!
