Default Google SiteMap... anyone???

Hi,

I'm looking over the google sitemap protocol and it seems unnecessarily complicated.

1st you have to learn a dialect of XML, then you need to compress your sitemap file using gzip, then you make sure your encodeing in UTF-8 encoding, etc, etc...

They have a generator that will produce the site maps but you need to have python v2.2 installed on your server.

Has anyone figured out a tool to easily create these things or an easy way to explain how to create them?

Just create the file yourself. If you have a database-driven site, you can create the file with PHP. At the top of your code put the line:

Code:
header('Content-type: text/xml', true);
You don't need to compress the file, it's optional. Anyway, I've created Google sitemaps for 5 sites and seen absolutely no increase in traffic so it might not even be worth it.
