Default backlinks changing?

I have been following my backlinks each day due to a downgrade in Google. (was #1 when you searched "words of wisdom", am now #4) So have been adding links to the site, so am checking backlinks each day to see if any increase according to google.

For the last 2 days, I see 2 different numbers. When I check in the morning it shows my back links as 151, but when I check in the evening the backlinks go to 160. This has happened 2 days in a row. Is this normal?

my site:

Any comments would be appreciated!
Thanks

A backlinks update just occurred a few days ago. You are probably looking at the results from two different datacenters.

Google now randomly rotates through different datacenters. I have seen seven different datacenters in my area and each can have different results. You can see which datacenter the results are coming from by clicking on a "Cached" link in the search results. The IP address diplayed in the URL in the address bar identified the datacenter.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Google shows only a very small portion of the number of backlinks that point to your site.

Your competitors may have just spent more time getting links...

Default The Change is a Rotation of Several Googles

Concur with previous posts, you're probably looking at one of about 17 Googles. Although they don't show public updates of their PRs consistently, it's possible to see your PR change on some days simply because the data you're seeing is from a different IP.

Don't kill yourself checking constantly; time is money - what else could you be doing with that time that will better benefit your site in the long run?
