Google Goggles, Gargoyles & Link affectivity!

Recently, after the “Florida Update” and deeply intertwined in various threads on WPW, I have done an Alexa search and reviewed Sites Linking into a few Sites belonging to “Veterans and Moderators” that post frequently on the threads here:
Here is what I have found:

One PR5 shows 1 (single Site) incoming link on Alexa
Another PR5 shows 1,178 Sites Linking in

A PR5 that shows 1,178 Incoming Links and another that shows 1 on Alexa? Yet both owners argue the value of links incoming!

Looks like the different search engines value incoming links differently, but both Sites evidently get satisfactory traffic.

My GOOGLE GOGGLES are still a bit blurry!

Can someone help explain this 1-1,178 Alexa discrepancy and why both are ranked as PR5s with GOOGLE?

Why doesn’t a single top ranked GOOGLE “gargoyle” site explain that the history of gargoyles in ancient architecture were to help repel evil spirits from the building?, instead of being just a "grotesque figurine"?

Man this reminds of a bad remake of "Night of the Living Dead(horse)".

And why are you comparing Googles with Gapples ???

But to answer your question, I would need to know exactly what you were talking about. Are you talking about one site or two here?

You are repeating your figures identically and referring to those figures backwards in relation. It is hard to tell what you are actually telling us here. 1 to 1178 compared to 1178 to 1. It looks like you missed something or accidently mis-reported what you really meant to say.

But a general answer I can give you right now, is that Alexa's Links To a Site are very questionable and there is no point in comparing them to Google's linkback reporting or anybody else's.

I have a PR5 page with one link at Alexa, and 67 at Google -- with and without the www. in the domain name in both cases. Why is that ????

Also...just because you do not see a linkback being reported at Google, it does not mean that Google is not aware of it -- or counting it -- or discounting it for that matter.

Maybe it is the quality of the links. Maybe it is the sheer quantities of the links. Maybe my Googoyle is more meaner than the next guys Goople. Maybe I am Dr. Seuss reincarnate with a penchant to throw my hat at a cat. =)

What I am really saying Ken is don't over-obsess yourself on this stuff. Spend your time in pursuit of something more worthwhile...like that PDA/Cellphone referral thing that just landed in your lap. Put your energies into why that is happening -- it seems that this would be a heck of lot more rewarding, eh???

I don't see much difference, and neither does GOOGLE!

The question of link value vrs. GOOGLE PR is not a question that should be taken lightly! We all want to dance with the new rhythm!

The question of increasing phone browser viewing is not NEW to us, we have been watching it increase for months now! If we need to give it more attention then we will. On the other hand, if we are getting that kind of Phone Browser traffic, it seems pretty significant. If in fact, we are accelerating faster in Phone Browser traffic browsing than most, then I might be able to assume that changes do not need to be made! If you have something constructive to offer there - Please DO!

I think it IS significant and warrants your attention. It is actually quite impressive I think.

I don't know if you read my response in the thread that you started on this subject yet, but let me reiterate a couple of points.

You need to find out the origin of the referrals and determine what they are looking for. When you determine that, act accordingly.

I know nothing about how to go about writing pages that will look good on a cellphone..hehehehe...but it seems to me that I think these are coming more from the PDA's running WindowsCE which is scaled down version of Windows.

The PDA's using WinCE are quite nice really and have a half-way decent browser in them. So much so, that you could write some pretty decent web pages geared for them....and use some pre-server instructions to offer them up in lieu of regular Html.

But knowing what to write takes us back to why they are there in the first place. It is my guess that they are using MSN Search -- actually they most probably are.

It might be nice to get a hold of one of these PDA's yourself, and browse the net with one.
