Default Google Adwords Question

Okay...since I'm still new to Google Adwords, I'm working on the layout for a site where I hope to incorporate AdWords (or other text-based CPC ads) into it.

But I read somewhere that you're not supposed to design a site for that sort of thing. But if the content is there, can I go and ask Google if they would put their AdWords in the section I basically have assigned in the layout for them? (i.e. if I told them that I had a spot in the top right for the Google AdWords, would the content I had generated at this point really matter?)

I think your should be fine. I believe that Google is referring to not making a website specifically for adwords. If you are making a website to make a website, and you leave a place for advertising, then you should be fine.

Default Reserved Space

I concur with Jestep, reserved space is fine; Google's policy is against building a site or page specifically for affiliate links. If you're building normal content pages for a website and you're reserving space for future adspace, so be it.

If you know what type/size GoogleAds your going to place on the page, simply create an empty place holder or gif image; this will also help you design.

Google is also specific about how many and type ads can be served on a given page, be careful here also.

Good luck!

Okay, so basically I should be good. Thanks for that. :)

But just so I can allocate appropriate space in my layout, what are the sizes? The only one I can seem to figure out is 728x90, and I want it to be in a vertical column to make my layout more aesthetically pleasing.

Default GoogleAd Sizes

If you're looking for a side nav of googleads, they have two that work well depending on your layout; 120*600 and 160*600. BTW, the measurement you mentioned is actually 768*90 I think.
