I am not too sure about that one Janeth.
I have been talking back and forth to a link partner of mine...this same topic is one of the focuses of the conversation.
It is of his opinion (I am still up in the air on it) that a heavy concentration of links with a identical textual keywords may have a detrimental effect when it comes to Google.
This would have to be a large number of links. The figure getting batted around between him and I is 300 or more.
To further support that theory, another link partner of mine who has over 600 inbound un-reciprocated links with the term "fish oil" in the text has disappeared from the Google results altogether. Although over on the www2 data center in November he disappeared, then just recently reappeared in the top 50. Previous to all of this he had been at number one, nothing could shake it from that position.
In the latter case the links were un-reciprocated as I mentioned, paid advertising thru a couple of sites and Google is reporting the 600+ as backlinks.
What doesn't hold true is the drop in his
PR though, not what we can see anyway. But he did take not only a hit on the fish oil term, but a couple of others that are in the link text. All of them disappeared.
Even though the
PR is not affected in this case, it does not mean that it
PR damage cannot be accomplished. It would have to be an extreme case of hundreds of really bad spammy pages as the poster described above.
The fact that the 300+ link theory at Google is lending credence to the fact that Google is taking a harder look at inbound links -- unreciprocated links at that. It could be that they are targeting certain types of links also, such as paid advertising. Who knows. But the fact is that inbound links are having some negative effects.
I have letters into 3 other link partners to get their slant on things. I converse quite a bit with these guys and we sometimes put two and two together after a while.
Will get back to this thread as more information comes in. If this tired old brain can make a mental note to do that, of course. =)
