Default Google results down sized

I just noticed this today.
For the keywords I follow google has reduced the results.

fireworks used to have almost 9 million results.
now they have less then 5 million.

I don't know if this means they are doing some spring cleaning or what.

This has been the case for a while. Result counts are constantly changing largely due to different DataCenters with inconsistent indexes. IMO, This is exactly why some people are listed one day and gone the next. The datacenters are not synched. I have removed URL's from Google using their webmaster login. It was removed from index, but the other DataCenters still had it in the index. It should stabilize over time.

Default I see the same

Tool Parts used to return 13.5 million. Last few days it was 11.5 million. Now, I only see 10.3 million.

Doesn't matter to me as long as we stay at #1. Could be 2 and I'd be ok as long as nobody else gets a spot. :-)

Brian.

I've often wondered why they even index more then say 100,000 results for any given phrase.

Does anyone ever search beyond the first 10 pages anyway.

Or it could be that each time you search you are getting a different data centre, they have three that we know of. Easy way to check, ask colleagues to save three search terms and then compare notes.

Following the keyword in the last week it has changed results 2 more times. Now showing 6,600,000. I've asked people in California and Florida to also check and they are seeing lower numbers also.
