Gatting Google to Drop Pages
Hi:
I'm not a webmaster. About 18 months ago my former webmaster added a program called Traffic Equalizer to my website - software that generated 1800 pages to the site. I know now that it was an error.
In November Google dropped me from almost all rankings.
How do I get back in Google's good graces? My newly hired webmaster has in the last month inserted code to prevent the SE's from spidering the 1800 pages; has written to Google asking them to drop the pages from their index; has renamed the files; has redirected the pages back to my home page.
No change so far. Google spiders a few of my good pages a week (12 spider visits this week) but nothing like it used to. And zero traffic from Google. Yahoo and MSN have also dropped very significantly although some of my best keywords still rank in the top 100.
I'm wondering:
a) what else can be done - or is it too early to tell whether these steps should have worked?
b) if I need to start a new website - and if so, can I use the good content (35 pages) from the old site, or do I have to rewrite everything?
I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.
