Default Not a PR update, BUT...

I have found 2 pages on 2 sites that PR has changed in the last few days. The various PR update tools are showing no changes..... I just did a quick check of some other forums and there a a few other reports of this oddity .... mystery.

There is something going on at the moment. May be google are testing something or a new way the PR update take action.

Nothing too startling I assume... we are going into the unstable period just prior to a scheduled PR update after all... Shouldn't we expect it!

I didn't know page rank updates were scheduled. Is this based on the regualarity in the past?
When was the last big update does anyone know?
I thought there was an interesting one in February and some minor things happeneing since then.

omeomi,

I hope I am the first to welcome you to WPW also!

A while back GOOGLE decided they were going to go from approximate monthly "public" PR updates to quarterly. I believe we are due around the first of April give or take a week or 2.

Just in time for "Fools Day"!

LOL

PR updates usually happen after Google finishes their backlink updates... The BL's seem to be bouncing around (just like the SERPs) constantly.

Imagine waking up April 1st, and all of your sites were a PR9 or PR10 only to find that Google had played an April Fools joke on the entire SEO community for one day.

That would be funny!

Yes that would be funny, lol!

I think a PR update is in the works too, and I agree probably end of March/beginning of April. I've got a few new sites that I've been sitting on for link exchanges, directory submissions, etc., hoping for *some* PR so that I have a better chance of getting links in.

Anyone else find that if you have a new PR 0 site that your directory submissions don't go so well? Maybe 1 in 10 get accepted. I wait til the PR update and then submit hard.

It might even be funnier if everyone ended up with "0s", and an April Fools explanation that evereyone had been leveled, flattened out, left to climb out of the cesspool or "grease spot" themselves on a complete new set of algs!

Now that would be fun!

LOL

They are getting ready for the PR update at the end of the month. I think they are doing final testing on there Algo update. You might see some wierd stuff over the next couple weeks. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us.

Next PR Update Guess: April 1st 2005

Why does there have to be "weird stuff" before a PR update? Why do they have to get "ready for one"?

I have never seen ever anything done by Google to indicate a PR update is immenient (except for the results shuffles that happen every few or so weeks, that may indicate PR updates internally)

Craig,

Don't get too serious here.... Hopefully we are learning to take it a little lighter!

I like this, a whole lot better than the "Oh My God!" posts!

Maybe we will finally get around to "Wake" here!

LOL

Please don't let this be a cruel joke from Google. I just finished checking the PR on my sites and am so happy to see that the new domain finally has the same PR as the old domain and that the second site is starting to get PR going from 0 last week to 2 this week. I'm extatic, please don't tell me this is all some testing stage and it will all go away tomorrow :(

The same thing that happens before every update; some degree of instability in, IBL's, public PR, and SERPs.

Since Jan 1st I am calling April 1st as the exact day. You know google engineers and ROFL over this. I kinda wish they stayed private. I like having pr updates every 4-6 weeks. Everyone hang-on for the roller coaster ride. Hope everyone gets there #1 spot!

Hello
Obviously, I'm new. I just wanted to post a small comment stating that I am happy to see so many as interested (soft word I use to hide my anxiety) in PR as I am.

My guess is St.Patty's. . . and only Irish themed sites get a PR boost :-)

I don't think it will wait till 1st April. I have seen lot of changes, especially in the same link, the gaps between PR with www. and without www. are everywhere now. In August some thing similar had happened.

Welocme aboard WPW Blogcetra,

You may have came in on the perturbance at the beginning of another wave of Search Engine algorithm changes.

I hope you don't take my style negatively.

How many of these rides have you been around for?

It's about time for me to get another bottle of cognac, some fine cigars, set back and kick my feet up.

Much better entertainment than TV! I love watching the parade, when it comes by!, especially when I am prepared. That's the time I take a breather and relax, watch the show and enjoy!.

LOL

Been around for many of them. About 6 years now. Several sites that sadly have been dismantled over the years. I just started blogging in the past couple of months. At least I may get in on this round. Hopefully anyway.

Thanks for the welcome Greeneagle, yes you are the first. I look forward to contributing. Can't really this in this topic now, but maybe after this update I'll have some rollercoaster stories to tell. Who knows.

Quarterly instead of monthly could mean less of an interest from big G in that area? It is link building not link losing after all.

Cheers

Mike

Default PR flux

I have a handful of sites that get tracked by urltrends.com - cool site. When something major changes in the staus email comes.

Two of them got triggered 2 days ago, and showed PR drops. I checked them manually and nothing changed. So something moved to set that email off, but didnt last.

That's good to know Ken, thanks for this post Ken and cbp... I had some suspicions about this but I haven't really been hanging out in forums lately so I didn't know for sure.

So I guess they're "regular crawling/updating" - as they claim - applies to content/indexing but they still dance with PR. oi :o)

That's just the nature of google with them using huge clusters and testing there algo constantly. Right before a PR update I feel the "wierd stuff" I was referring to is them finetuning it and doing sample tests on blocks of sites to check the filters.

Right now there are at least 4 (and perhaps 5) sets of results that are being used/tested. Not different data centers but different sets of results within those data centers. I've been following a search term and checking several of the data centers for the results of that term. Specifically, the results within each data center will change back and forth between the different sets of results.
