Default SEO Re: Blogs Hosted In Site vs. Hosted Elsewhere

So I've got a blog on my website via Movable Type. I'm thinking about maybe moving it over to Blogger and a different URL.

It's a fair amount of content, but does Google take the entire content of the site (all pages) into consideration for SERPs?

Does it really help my site SEO-wise to have this blog at my current URL vs. having it at, say, a Blogger URL?

(I'm sure this is a dumb question, but, hey, I'm a newbie. Any help is appreciated.)

First of all there are no dumb questions:)

If the blog is related to the content of your website, yes it definitly can help your website in the SERPs... But mainly if you link to other pages on your website from your blog and build a good linking structure around it...

Internal linking can have a real impact on your results. And if the Blog ads value by providing additional relevant content to the rest of the website it's magnified...

If you are concerned about the SEO of your site, I could only see it helping you having the Blog on it... IMO
