Default Listing SERPS

A month or so ago, there was an SEO company ranked nationally at the top of Google SERPS, that bragged about it on their site - "if we can do it for ourselves we can do it for you."

I would never be that arrogant, but I has thinking of listing on my site the key phrases we are number one for (4 or 5, and making that statement that while this does NOT guarantee we can do the same for you, it indicates that what we are doing is working at this time, although results could change within the hour.

Any opinions? Would this be "over the top" or be considered bad form? I am talking about www.seohouston.com

I am thinking...if somebody is giving big promises in SEO, always have to be carefull...as nobody can give full assurance for SERP.

I've always said that my value as a web developer is not determined by what I know right now - it's in how quickly I can learn the next thing and adapt and evolve. Things move fast!

If I was going to try and sell SEO services I would emphasize exactly that. I'd say look at where my site ranks now - but keep in mind that the search engine algorithms are constantly evolving and while no one can guarantee a ranking in six months, I've been at this for X number of years and I can guarantee that I'll be on top of all the changes.

I'd feel comfortable selling that!

If you want to attract a long term client, that is exactly what long term website owners are looking for.

On the other hand if you want to attract people that are trying to set up a get rich quick site, then telling them what they want to hear will do the trick.

I would be extremely weary of any SE0 company that says look at our ranks we can do it for you, every keyword is different and has its own level of difficulty in SE0 terms. It's literally impossible to guarantee a number one ranking.

I would suppose that any SEO worth his salt would insure that his own site ranks well simply as a demonstration of his abilities. What does it say to a customer if the SEOs site does not rank for the keywords in his page title?

It may not be that every SEO can get a ranking for any keyword at a given price, but given the time, money and resources should be able to achieve a first page ranking for any keyword. The problem is not getting the rankings, its getting them at a price that is time and cost effective.
