My backlinks more than doubled this morning. From 1400 to 3220.

Hope it lasts.

I have lost 17 links so far but google is now giving me credit for some more quality links. I hope it balances out well before the next pr update.

I have lost 17 during this update time. What I have noticed is that I have picked up some more quality links. I hope that help before the next pr update.

Even though we are seeing the fruits of those labors today, I feel strongly that it won't last one day, one week, one month, etc. One single algo change that devalues sitewides and we're back to the bottom of the SERPs. Now I've been working to get back to single high PR relevant anchor links, as it should be.

You can kind of think of it as investing. All of your IBLs shouldn't be sitewides. Your portfolio of inbounds should be spread out evenly so algo changes don't have extreme impacts like this. It's great when it's in your favor, and horrible when it isn't.

Default Not Good

My backlinks went down, and my PageRank went down in the Google Directory, but in reality my number of links remained exactly the same. SERPS remain great.

My links have gone up. I am also getting google alerts for my sites links but I found some of my internal pages of the site linking to home page is also included in the alert for that site.

Is it a common thing? Or indication of some change in alog.

Just noticed this is my 100th post :)

Nothing but normal backlink updates when they find them here. I believe public PR updates are a month away. Don't see anything to get excited about yet.

I have 5 sites and the backlinks increased on all of them this morning. My main site has had 48 backlinks in google for the last 6 months and today it has gone up to 111 so even though not a lot I am well pleased. On a site that went live just 3 weeks ago I have 16 backlinks but quite a lot are 404 custom pages for pages that I removed just a few days ago.

I find MSN varies a lot day by day. One day I might have 2500 and the next 500. Today I am on 831 backlinks.

Default Different Algo

Is it possible that Google is using a different Algo at different data centers? I find that data centers have totally different results, which have been different for 10 days or more, longer than an update.

There has been two sets of results being returned for almost 2 weeks from what I see. There is a significant quantity difference in total results returned, and the ranking order is completely different.

In the afternoon the smaller set of the two seems to be shown for a few hours on and off where we are on page 3, and at night and more commonly the larger set of the two, which I rank on page 1.

The two sets are the same two sets everyday, as in if the larger set is being shown we are always in the same area near the same competing sites.

The smaller set is different but always the same order as the day before as well.

The quantities>>>>>
One I have watched returns 540,000 results and increases every few days by a few K as the index grew, this has been the case for months.

The last 10 days or so there has been this 2 different sets. The quanitites are quite different and the results appear to be derived from a different formula, as they are the same two sets, with a different page order altogether everyday.

pattern of total returns for the last 2 weeks is something like this - with the quantities changing every couple of days steadily.

Last 2 weeks

#SET1 Larger - SET#2 Smaller
520,000 430,000
525,000 455,000
540,000 465,000
580,000 510,000
-today-none here 560,000 here

It is easy to see which set is being displayed anytime i look since I know the order of the top 30 for each, and they are clearly 2 different sets of results.

I have followed this 2 sets of results pattern with a few keywords I follow every hour everyday.

The "small" has been gaining ground and it appears like it is a alternate "growing index of results" based on a different ranking criteria.

The "small" seems to be returned here for a few hours every afternoon. It comes and goes a few hours at a time.

Today I have only seen the "small" set and it has now caught up in size with the "large". And perhaps it is a replacement for the large under some new system.

This is what i see, perhaps a similar pattern to what others see.

Default I agree with you

Even I see the changes every couple of hours for the past few days. My clients website springbreakcancun dot com is # 1 in google for the keyword "spring break cancun" and # 4 for "spring break" but after couple of hours when I check it is gone.

Can anyone say what is going ?

Thanks

Default lost links

I look after quite a few sites and the trend I have seen is that larger sites with a lot of internal links, these links are no longer being displayed. SERPs are not affected, though one of my sites had 4500 links now down to 686. I am not worried as search ranking has not changed for my keywords.

Perhaps what we are seeing is just a change to how backlinks are displayed. which has always been a Google mystery anyway.
Being UK side of the pond I tend to use google.co.uk dont know if this makes much of a difference.

Default Bls

I have seen no changes in my backlinks in Google. Must be a selective update.

I lost 22, from 127 down to 105. A true link count is about 2100, up from about 1600 at the time of last BL update.

Interestingly, only about 10% of the BLs shown are what *I* would consider quality links. The rest are internal pages, forums, and recip link partners.

The good news is that I'm #4 or #5 in SERPs for my most important and have been since Feb 7. For secondary KWs I'm #1 pretty much across the board.

Funny, but my backlinks have just reverted back to what they were from the last update. I was well pleased yesterday with my increases, now a little bemused. Hopefully its just a glitch and they will return

I think it's just a matter of which DC you happen to connect to.

The McDar tool shows three differnt BL counts for me, across all DCs. The majority of the DCs are showing the March update number. Some, are showing the Feb update number. And some, are showing the January update number.

The question in my mind is whether all of the inconstencies we see are a deliberate attempt to daze and confuse, or is Google really struggling?
