All about those Google Books.
Fellow webproworldsters I was thinking whether I should buy some books about google, they are "Google Cash" and "Building your business with google for Dummies" and I am rightfully confused. We all want our sites to have high rankings with the number one search engine in the world. As a newbie all these books are freaking me out. I do not want to waste any money on recycled material. I have searched for reviews about these books and they are mixed. Should I buy these books? Are these books helpful? Are they a waste of time? Are these just authors cashing in on the growth of Google?
I welcome everyone's imput please.

Tropical,
IMO you can probably get the latest information in various Webmaster Forums like this one, and possibly even associated blogs here and there.
If the top " real-time" sources are somewhat confused, then it's not very likely that any more "stable" staple will be derived from older "printed" material.

In my opinion, books will get you start faster, because of more structured contents.
To keep up with the latest development, nothing can beat forums.
Also Forum and other Internet resources are only useful if you know what to ask and have a good searching skills.

You may also want to spend a little time on a few member Sites that you find here that offer instruction, tutorials and such. It's free and structured.

Search engine concept changes so fast that you can't depend on a recent book and depend on it for next six months. We have to constantly upgrade ourselves and read the views in forums, articles, newsletters etc.. That is the way I followed.
But I would like to read about google and its strategies, culture, growth plan etc from a book like reading on any other successful company.

Tropical,
If you haven’t already, take the time to read through the rest of Ken's(greeneagle) site. There is a ton of useful and more importantly accurate information.
Be careful what you read in the forums, always do your research. Anyone like me can just start posting our opinions, that doesn't mean were are correct.
I have read through Ken's site and have known him for awhile and fully trust his information.
And yes I have to say it, try not to get "Google on the brain", MSN and Yahoo are providing much more relevant results due to the evil Googles sandboxing technique.

The same applies to anything in print including books! At least with a forum you will read follow up criticism or approval from a peer group. Also, and more importantly you will experience a 'dynamic' set of information and opinions.

I agree not to believe everything you read(of course if it's on T.V. it's true lol) however, experiencing a 'dynamic' set of information and opinions is great providing their accurate.
The best thing to do is get out there and get some experience and learn from your mistakes.

ok, I expect to maybe get flamed for this, but I have to jump in. As someone who does offer a book on Google, I can tell you that mine has relevant and current information.
However, as in any publishing medium, once you are published, you have become dated.
SEO is a constantly evolving service, but at some time, you need to have a starting point. Whether it's the seobook, or the nitty gritty guide to writing for search engines, they all provide value.
If you look at it as a business cost, don't you think it's a lot cheaper to purchase a book, rather than hire a consultant, who won't write everything down for you, but instead do it for you or just tell you how to optimize your site. At least in a book, you have it in a tangible form.
Plus, any legitimate seller of their book *should* offer a refund. (Like I do)

SEOforGoogle,
I don't believe at this point that it would be considered SPAM to put a plug in for your book here. It is "Topic Relevant".
What do you have to offer?
When was it last updated?
What advantageous "pearls of wisdom" does it contain?
Where can it be found?
Why should I buy it?
How much does it cost?
Brief, Substantiable Testimonials, wouldn't hurt.
I am seriously inviting you to do a sales pitch here because it is topic related!
We have viewers with a spectrum of experience here, and yes sometimes it can save quite a bit of time to access "tried and true", consolidated and timely info.
I personaly don't think it hurts for our members to "plug" their products and/or services in a no spam manner.
I wouldn't invite anyone to do so without it being directly topic relevant though!
I'd say go for it.
Keep it appropiate.
That's my vote!

before I even noticed SEOforgoogles post, I was going to suggest you visit AWall19 's site, and start there.
So im not stepping on your toes from your post, it was an completely aside from you write above.
goto seobook.com, and plenty of free information which could keep you busy for months. I personally like to read what Aaron writes.
So this isnt a plug, other than for a very content filled smart site.

You asked for it!
"What do you have to offer?"
My book details everything I do as a professional SEO - all the exact tools I use, the methods, and code I place in all my client sites.
"When was it last updated?"
2.28.05 - Also, starting in April 05, anytime the book gets updated, anyone who buys the book will be sent an email to a link with the new updated information.
"What advantageous "pearls of wisdom" does it contain?"
How to get out of the Google "Sandbox".
"Where can it be found?"
www.seoforgoogle.com
"Why should I buy it?"
If you are new to SEO, it will explicitly tell you what you need to do to your site to get it indexed and ranked in Google. *and* - if you aren't happy with it, I have a 90 day no questions asked refund policy, if you don't think it had any value, I won't make you swallow the cash. All I would ask is for feedback as to why you didn't find it useful. Also, you can write it off as a business expense.
"How much does it cost?"
$59.95
"Brief, Substantiable Testimonials, wouldn't hurt."
Still working on the authorization, but if needed, contact me and I will provide testimonials as well as demonstrate real time results.
Thanks for the opportunity, greeneagle! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overstepping my bounds here, as I value the information found on this forum highly.
