Default Frustrated with Google

Hi everyone,
I have a dropshipping web site that used to be #1 in google if you searched for dropshipping. Now, I'm not in the top.. anything! I go to Yahoo, Altavista, etc, and I'm in the top 10! I don't get it. It was so sudden, and it's been a while.. I thought maybe I would get back up to where I was, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. :( I would like to post the url, but I'm afraid to.. is there anyone who would be willing to give suggestions after looking at it? *Sigh*

I have just experienced exactly the same thing...

My website, www.eyesbright.com used to appear on the first page for most terms, and certainly top for 4 word terms.

For example, we used to hang around position #3 - #8 for 'coloured contact lenses', but today we are #61. We've not had low positions like this for at least 18 months, maybe more.

I generally refresh the content every so often - the featured panels sometimes change, and the 'special offer' changes every month. This usually results in an upwards push of a couple of places.

Any ideas as to why this is happening now?

Thanks,

Frustrated with Google?

Your not alone.... The buzz across the net is similar for many.

Google seems to using achor text as a primary way of ranking web pages... In fact, many of the first page results don't seem to make any sence why they are even there.

I've gone through the first page of results and have witnessed sites appearing for a keyword and not having that keyword on page nearly as much as you would expect... Keyword density is a thing of the past with Google....

I'm currently trying to figure out if meta tags even play a role anymore....

Google may be forgetting the fact that most of there traffic is the result of rankings and webmasters....

It almost seems like they are digging their own grave. While they try to be more sophisticated in ranking web pages, there confusing the hexk out of webmasters and as a result, most are flocking to Yahoo and MSN.

There was a major update that is finally whinding down at Google. Your loss of rankings is problem due to that.

I have several sites that are doing well with Google's latest update. Either they didn't move or moved up extemely well. The "buzz" are from buzzers that are trying to figure out why their site has lost rankings. For everyone of the buzzers, complaining of lost rankings, their are sites that have done great with Google's latest update.

Default My site doesn't appear at all any more

I am similarly unhappy. My site (www.playhard.co.uk) used to rank quite well but since the last update doesnt appear in the listings at all.

The strange thing is that Google are still indexing it almost daily, but it doesnt appear in their results - even if I search for an obscure random set of words from a page. I don't understand what is going on or what I can do about it.

Default Frustrations with Google

I'm finding problems with Google too and I'm not sure what it is. In the last week every rank we had on Google is gone, poof. From 1st page rankings (ok not great but at least 1st page) to not even on the 3rd page. Meanwhile Yahoo et. al. are going up!!

Default Feeling Exactly the Same

I have a Spanish-Speaking site in México www.fiberland.com.mx which was #1 in almost all the keyword searches related to the site. Suddenly on february 4, the site jumped from #1 to the 50's on all keywords. My PR is still the same, but the pages that now list in the top 10, they all have lower PR's and most of them are links, posts, or banners to my site. I still can't get what happened, Yahoo! and Msn are doing great, but I do miss all those google referrals!!!! Any idea what could I be doing wrong??
Help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Default Bye Bye Google listing

OK...my turn to moan.

Hi,

After enjoying a page 1 listing in Google for 1 1/2 years, it appears my site has become a victim of their most recent algo change. It just disappeared.

But here's the odd part: references to my site still appear on Google pages 1 & 2 because of sites that link back to my site....some of which are using the exact same text as contained in my currently lost site.

A quick search of Yahoo and MSN reveals that my site pages are still listed on page 1 & 2 where often, the page results are in the millions...in other words a more competitive environment. That never happened with Google.

I add content on a regular basis and try to go by the rules as dictated by the SE gods on Mount Olympus. Recently added an RSS feed. And by the way, Google still crawls my site http://www.channel1records.com every other day...which I think is strange for a site that no longer can be found! My site's PR remains unchanged.

So, considering the Google situation as described above, can someone shed some light on why my site disappeared but the remnants (link-backs) still remain??

Thanks!

Your site is still there and you have a #1 listing.
But probably not the one you want:
http://www.google.com/search?num=50&...+aggregator%22

Number one listing for "To read the feed you will need a reader / aggregator". If that is not what you want, get busy and change that.

voasi, after all the post in all the forums about the evil Googles results being trash, you still insist that everyone else is wrong?

This isn't an update, this is the results we are going to get from Google from now on. Updates don't last for months and months at a time.

Do yourself a favor and do some searches for any keywords you choose on the evil Google and see for yourself. At least half of the results will be trash.

Jason, my post has nothing to do with the relevancy of Google results, only the fact that with every update/algo tweak, there are people who complain about losing rankings.

For everyone one of those sites that has lost rankings in the recent update, they're are site owners who's sites gained great rankings and aren't posting (gloating) in the forums.

Google's always tweaking their algo. Do see similar results on all the datacenters? Are they aligned in results since the recent change in the beginning of Feb.?

Like I said, my post was never about the relevancy in Google SERPs, only the amount of banter, in the forums, that comes after a change in Google ranking methods.

well for every site that falls someone is going to move up right? that sounds like a pretty obvious fact since every page still has 10 results on it.

I think the point of people being upset, is the much more significant than ussual losses sites that have been the most relevent for years suffered.

Most of these posts point out that much less relevent sites seemed to take the place of what has been consistent for years.

I dont think anyone here is upset about the fact that there was a change, just by the fact that clear lower quality of serps seem to have impacted them directly.

Change is normal I think, but "radical sudden and hard to explain" change is difficult to accept with no reasoning.

I think if you remove the 50,000,000 superpages.com results from google we would all be back on page #1.

:D

There have been plenty of posts in forums from people happy with the latest Google change - what about all those sandboxed sites that are now ranking well?

I suppose we can all only witness our own, If I recall you just reaped the benefit of some hard work on a sandboxed site of your own.

I didnt get affected overly from this recent change, a few drops here and there of a page or 3 at the worst.... so I am looking on the page 1's I see somewhat unbiased.
