Default Help, I've disappeared!!!

Hi there, can anyone help?

I've been developing a new site dedicated to IB chemistry (I'm a teacher). I started builing links and submitting the to the search engines in October and by December it appeared reaasonably in the top 20 in Google for the terms "IB chemistry syllabus" and "IB chemistry notes" and on the 21st page for "IB chemistry" itself.

This week it has suddenly disappeared for all terms! I think that Googlebot visited the site during a big upload (I looked at the cache for a search using the website address) after having done an optimisation!!!

Could this have affected the ranking if it tried to visit during an upload??

The site ranks no 5 on Yahoo (no change there)so I don't know what to do.

How do I find out my current ranking for search terms?

Is there anything I can do apart from wait?

Cheers

Charco

Your site isn't banned or anything. I would first wait until this google update mess is over with and then ask again. Its really hard to analyze a site in google right now, because google is so unstable at this moment.

Off the start, I would change the title from
"IB Chemistry syllabus and notes" to
"IB Chemistry syllabus and notes, International Baccalaureate Chemistry".

Default Sites Coming and Going

This is a difficult time to get an answer to your questions. Google search results are changing frequently. One of the search terms I'm testing has always shown newspaper articles in the top positions. These were valid results, and it seemed appropriate they were the top results. Three days ago all of the newspaper articles disappeared from the search results. They were replaced by one of my web sites, so that was good for me, but it doesn't make sense that the newspaper articles don't show anywhere in the top 200 (that's as far as I looked).

This is just one example. Each morning when I turn on my computer and do a quick scan of my important keywords, the search rankings in Google have changed. So, for now, I'd recommend patience, and focus on creating a quality user experience.

charco,

Your post is not surprising at all.
I don't think it had to do with anything
you did at all.
Yahoo is easy and stable and I have
enjoyed good listing and rank for a
long time.(years)

Google is a completely different
animal. I think even after they get
things settled it will still be a roller
coaster for many in regards to listing/rank
visibility.

Relax, continue with what
has worked for you. I am convinced
quality inbound links is the answer
so far.

I saw my site listed # 3 on a 5 keyword
search then disappears 15 minutes later!! So
figure that one out! I don't have many inbound
links. I have noticed the sites that have a stable
listing/rank have lots of inbound links. But still they
jockey up and down in rank/listing.

I did a search on your terms.

A personal tripod web page is at #1 at the present time.
rthornley.tripod.com/chemistry/ ib_chem/ib_chemistry_syl.htm
Its page rank is 1/10 !! Unbelievable.

Hell to all-- I'm a newbie here. Only had a posting or two total.

I have been having the same problem with my promotional products site-- ever since Feb 6! I have good Yahoo and MSN rankings, but Google has been up and down. For a month before Feb 6th, my google rankings had tanked...then suddently they shot to the first page for many keyword phrases. My main keyword phrases are "promotional products" and "promotional items". I had reached 34 on Google...and then on Feb 6th, I couldn't be found anywhere on google. in the last few days, I have been getting more referrals from Google... but listen to this:

When I check my web stats, I see the visitors who came from Google and the keywords used to find me. The service I use shows me the referrer URL on Google that the visitor came from. in the last week, since I satrted showing up again, when I click on that "referrer url" to go to google... I am not found on the page or any surrounding pages. This has been happening for a week.

Can anyone explain my site not being there when that is the url the visitor came from?

There are lots of changes going on at Google.
Know one will ever know the full extent. Only
those making the site changes. Us... the general
web public will never know.

I saw my site #1 for keywords and 15 min later it
was gone. Sites that have been around for a while
with good outside linking seem to hold firm.

I would say relax.. and go with the flow.
