Default GOOGLE's Comments on Blocking BlogSpam

There are many posts here on what happened in GOOGLE's Jan 17th update. One of the things Google did was to reinforce the 100 max OBL's/page moritorium. Some of us have promoted this for some time. It's always a good idea to honor what the SE's have to say in their "Webmaster Guidelines" anyway, isn't it?

Another issue is Blocking the BlogSpam. Here is what Google published the day after:

I like the link in the Google Blog to this eg of Blog sppam:
http://weblog.herald.com/column/dave...es/012729.html - the pharma spam is silly and its obvious G had to act.

Are you sure re the 100 links (its only been a recommendation for users from Google and GoogleGuy confirmed 6 months or so ago that this was the case) - consensus then was that Google do crawl and index >100 links page provided the size of the page was not over 100k. I have 2 site maps with >200 links - will delve into the logs later today when have time...

cbp,

I have been following the last update (Dec 17th) closely and I ran across a thread here where one of the members posted the testing results of his own sites that showed when he had in excess of 100 links he dropped percipitously in this last update.

He then modified the pages to contain less than the 100 and "popped" right back into the Serps. I have spent some time trying to find it again.... I guess it is buried deep, but I'll post the thread link when I find it again.

I replied in that thread with a question re how do they know that changing it was the reason for the jump back up. I have seen a few sites hit mid-dec, come back after no changes and a few stay down.

Jackson992 replied in the thread that he is getting Google traffic from his site maps with 100-1000 links on them.

I will check my logs later today
