Default .asp or .htm

I've always performed a convert function on .asp pages on my site to make them .htm. I've been doing this because I've always believed these rank better than .asp pages.
Is this still the case? I'm aware Google can rank .asp pages, but is html prefered? We've got a situation where an asp page would be much easier to make than an html one with lots of javascript.

Google has no preference on file extensions. You can use just about any file type you need.

However, for any dynamic pages (.asp, .php, .cfm, etc)it will have trouble after the 3rd variable, so if you are using dynamic pages, try to keep the variables under 3, and you should be able to optimize for all your terms.

I have heard this debated with php extensions as well, I dont think most extension make any difference, but I convert all mine to .html for superstition if nothing else.

There is no advantage for SEO point of view to convert ASP pages to HTML but there is no point in maintaining .asp pages with out any asp code inside it. Same time passing all html pages ( with out any asp code )through ASP engine is also not a good idea. In my site I keep php extension when ever I use PHP code inside it and for other pages I give .htm extesnion. There are no differences in ranking based on file extensions.

Hi thanks for your comments.

I use an asp page to generate our product pages from information stored in a database. There is only one parameter.

Are you saying that
www.domain.com/product.asp?ProductName=apple
would rank as well as:
www.domain.com/apple.htm

when the later is generated by viewing the source of the asp page and saving it as .htm.

Yes, my experience confirms that too.

Check this: http://www.google.com/search?q=extreme+gamers

The first result should be my .net site. Look at the cache. The full php generated page is there and it ranks for many phrases from the cheats tables.
And the tables are even fully generated on another server.

Default any examples out there?

Since Gore invented the web, I've yet to see a .asp page beat a .html for relevance of any type of site... Can anybody show me this?

Just a sample:
Does the word "mcse" seems non-competitive?
