Default rank vs results

When I check my sites ranking for "two way radio", Google says I rank 75.

However, when I search Google for "two way radio", I am no longer in the first several hundred results.

Last month I was number 8 on page 1 of results.

Anyone understand this?

I am number 1 on Yahoo for that search term.

That's a good question. I took a look. It went from 75 to 537... it's a little unstable.

Google has really shuffled the deck over the last few weeks... you're not alone.

The only thing you can do is look at the top of the SERPs for the keyword phrase and try and figure out why your competition is there and you're not.

I'm afraid a lot of things don't make sense. A lot of people are dropping out of site in the SERPs for no obvious reason...

RikR, how can you be #38 and on page one? The Google default is 10 per page. I don't think the average searcher even knows it can be changed.

So, realistically, you would be on page 4. Nothing wrong with that.... keep doing what you are doing.

On the page where you check your rank, there is a link to "check Google" it defaults to 100 per page.

Of course, you are correct for "normal" Google use, which is what matters.

Last month I was #8 on page 1. Hard to stay at the top!

For anyone not familar with the check your rank page:

http://www.googlerankings.com/

Just checked again. Now I am at 88. Good grief.

Google results and http://www.googlerankings.com/ results might show small difference depend on which datacentre they use.
