Default Duplicate content

Hi
I have six sites which were launched 6 weeks ago, they ranked fairly well for a few terms and all gained a PR 3 after the New Year update. Three of them are:
www.adventurejobs4u.co.uk
www.skijobs4u.co.uk
www.summerjobs4u.co.uk

Today they all dropped out of Google except one - adventurejobs. They are very similar in content, so I assume Google has spotted this?

I understand from another thread that it isn't a penalty as such, so if I change the sites to make them differ more will the other pages start to rank again?

Also another site I have on the same server - www.magnoliaproperties.co.uk also dropped out today? It's only very recently been picked up by Google and isn't actually finished. It has a similar page structure but completely different content? Any ideas why this happened?

Thank you.

Hi, your sites have clever ideas, jobs for summer, great idea. The property site has no (that I could find) instant 'Contact Us' - Also if the Estate Agent is paying you for introductions, he may have a problem with the 'Introducers Rules under the Financial Services Act, especially if he/they are arranging mortgages.
I see no reason why Google should have dropped you, unless you have suddenly climbed high in Yahoo, is that the case. I would also suggest that the jobs sites are PPC as well as optamised and submitted to Directories.Have a chat to the Estate Agent and post back.

Hi ctabuk
Thanks very much for your comments, I'll send you a PM about the Financial Services Act.

The property website is not finished, and GG only picked it up because I mentioned it in this forum a while ago. I have done no SEO on it. It only ranked for specific text that was found on the home page, but since yesterday it doesn't do that, and if I search for the URL, Google returns only the title line with no description or cache.

Should I continue working on this site, or should I scrap it and start fresh with a new URL?

Sorry to butt in on this thread but can suddenly jumping up the rankings in Yahoo! actually damage your Google rating?

dj4uk Welcome, well there is a theory that Yahoo and Google are reverse mirror SE's, years ago if you paid Yahoo £250 for site reviews and they liked your site then Google listed you as well, then money came into it and the two sides drifted apart and yes there have been cases of one high listing in Yahoo means squatdiddly in Google.

I've found lately that I'm showing up quite well in Google and Yahoo for my top keyphrases/pages, so I'm not sure the Google-Yahoo divergency theory necessarily applies any more. I'm still getting the vast majority of my search engine traffic from Google, however, even though I'm showing up well in Yahoo now, which might help explain why Yahoo may now be choosing to be more alike than disimilar to Google.

Well that's great news, it would be interesting to see what others have had in the way of experience.
