Default launching new sites early

Hi
I have registered a new domain, but don't plan on working on the site and launching it for another 6 months or so.
Because Google doesn't like new sites, is it a good idea to create a 'site under construction page' with maybe a few keywords in it, and get one or two links pointing to it? So by the time I get around to launching it properly, Google would have had it in it's index for a while and hopefully it won't be as difficult to get it ranking?
I can't see any problems with this, but if anyone can, please let me know.
Thanks.

Welcome to WPW.

I can't see any harm that can come by doing it. I have done it.

Only downside I can see is if the page changes too dramatically it may get dropped, a slow development may be better than an overnight transformation...

I would try to get some links along the way.

In the future, your link campaign will be easier if you have a little PR.

Default don't use "under construction"

try to create the homepage, and a few basic pages linked to it, without telling the visitor that it's under construction.
I doubt that you will have any visitors during the first 3-4 months, unless you use cpc advertising or start a linking campaign.
This way, you will get the chance to submit it to the DMOZ and have it approved and listed before the actual launching time. Because as we all know, sumitting to the dmoz is a necessary evil that could take months, and is very important for Google, and they won't accept "under construction" websites.

Thanks Suni, that's a very good idea. Do you have any idea how thoroughly the DMOZ editors test the sites before they accept them? I mean if a site claimed to show every house for sale in England, but only had 10 on it, would it fail? You can take a look at http://www.magnoliaproperties.co.uk
Thanks

Really bad advice. Please don't do it. The DMOZ Guidelines are explicit about not doing it. If the site is not ready, it will be rejected. A site can be revewed anywhere from 2 mins to 2 years after being submitted. Your site would be rejected the way it stands at the moment.

Re: DMOZ
I just this AM deleted 2 sites that were submitted yesterday as they were still in large parts of the site 'under construction' .... wasted my time checking when I could have done something productive, like review sites more worthy of a listing. Also it will make it more difficult for them to get reviewed next time.....duh
