Default PetsMART Spam? shop.statelinetack.com and statelinetack.com

I noticed a strategy that PetsMART seems to be trying and for the life of me cant figure out how they will be able to pull this off. They are using domain and subdomains with the same content.
shop.petsmart.com & petsmart.com
shop.statelinetack.com & statelinetack.com
<-- owned by PetsMART
They are using the services of netconcepts.com evidently.

Is there something I am missing that wouldn't make this duplicate content end up hurting PetsMART?
Will the big giant company get put in it's place like so many others do or get special treatment?

A quote from the netconcepts.com website.....
Quote:
"As author of Google Guide and How to Do Everything with Google, I was pleased (and surprised) at how much I learned from Stephan Spencer of Netconcepts on how to optimize and generate more revenue and bring more traffic to my sites."

Nancy Blachman,
Author and developer of Google Guide

hmm....Duplicate content is a good thing? I really think Nancy might want to take a second look.
The only concept that this company seems to have is to generate duplicate content. They have other sites doing the same thing.
Rather than using something.domain.com the others use www2 and www3 addresses along with the normal www.domain.com

Whats your thoughts on this strategy?
