Default Geeze! I must be GOD!!!

A couple of days ago I put a link to my website on this web directory page, that had no links on it yet [my link is still the only one there]...and wouldn't you know it, it jumped from absolute no where straight to #1 in the Google SERPs for the search phrases I was optimizing for!

thought I share this craziness with ya!

Which went to #1, your site or the directory page?

the directory page with my link on it shot to #1...not my website, which is proweddingphotos.com, which is CURRENTLY [at the time of this writing] down at the bottom of page 1 for "Indianpolis wedding photographers" and in the middle of page 2 for "Indianapolis wedding photographer" and "Indianapolis wedding photography".

substitute "Cincinnati" for "Indianpolis" in those three phrases and proweddingphotos.com [PR 4 showing with a newly added one way link from another PR7 photography site!! but I don't think Google has had time to find it and credit it yet.] is CURRENTLY in the middle of page one for all of those.

Google for the Indy search phrases CURRENTLY brings up the directory site at #1. In case that has changed by when you happen to read this, the url of the directory page is:

http://www.siteranking.com/photograp...ingphotos.html which has a PR of zero.

Google lists 150,000 pages for those search phrases.

Yes, this confirms my earlier findings.
They are actually first for both, singular and plural terms, although the page has no SINGLE link nor reference from other sites in Google or any other SE (I guess this thread will add one).

Being the first link there, you made their title (probably script) and highly positioned keywords on their page.
The text is in anchor (to your site) but it is still part of the page.

But what more important here and everywhere is, it seems that Google moved from pagerank to SITERANK so lets talk about SR (no credits needed, thanks).

PR remained extremely imortant, but I still didn't figure out the exact measure of the home pages in SERPS, is it combined (PR) with the actual local page PR or does it count as the single determining factor only (in combo with Internal Ranking Score, of course).

Instead of staying tuned - please join the quest.

Thanks again theiceman for sharing your experince.

Default DOUBLE GEEZE! IT HAPPENED AGAIN!

I added a link to creativepro.com....and wouldn't you know it, Google jumped that page straight to #2 for the Indinapolis wedding photographers' set of search phrases. Just behind the siteranking.com page at #1, which this thread was originally about.

That gives me #1 and #2 SERP results for all those Indy wedding photo search phrases with just a single direct one way link to my site on each of those two pages!

It sure is hard to get to the top of the heap, when sites with just a single link back to my site rank #1 & #2. Guess I'll have to happy with the middle of page 1 for proweddingphotos.com for right now!

Go figure!!

You are the only related link on the pages, so you are on on the top too, as you said. Good strategy.

That's great!

Bottom-line question:
How much more business are these new keyword rankings bringing in?

I've seen this turned-around effect in the SERPS in G, especially around the time of Florida. The page doing the linking was getting ranked better than the page being linked to. Hope you are getting some extra traffic!

I've submitted to this directory about 10 days ago and have not seen my listing appear yet. How long did it take for your to be approved (seems from your message only a few days)? Must be they got a ton of requests from your post.

I have the same frustrating problem with one site.
It ranks about #20-30 for it's *Organisation name*. All other positions are dedicated to pages linking to the site :)))
I gues it's a meter of time here.

I have had a similar, problem or puzzle with our sites.

When we get a new search engine optimisation client, we place a link at the bottom of our mainsite, a keyword rich link, Google spiders our site every other day, so these links are picked up, followed then the new sites are cached.

However, a few days later, our main site ranks highly for that phrase we used in the link.

Its something to do with the authority site status, or perhaps the fact that we update our main site every day!
