Default Do these links pass PR?

I never one to stress over PR, but am curious to know peoples opinion if the way the links are set up on this page pass PR:

I suspect they will not even show up as any form of link.

I'd never trust a link that relies on a script. I know SEs mostly claim they can follow JS etc these days, and maybe they can even cope with CGI links, but call me old fashioned - I want my IBLs to be static HTML hyperlinks.

It is also my experience that they do not show up. It may be convenient for the makers of directories, but it is fairly useless for us. What is wrong with simple HTML anyway?

Isn't this similar to what url.biz does (did) that caused them to fall off the map?

I think it was duplicate content with them, but that might also have been part of it. As I said, a lot of directories are doing this, and they simply never show up as a link.

Duplicate content may (rather suspect may not) have been the problems with the articles on their site being indexed. The actual OBL's from their site were and I've not checked recently, so still may not be indexed due to (I believe) to the fact they were hid in java.

Default directories

As presentationrentals posted, Google has picked up the cgi of my directory www.orangefish-directory.co.uk which Google has shown in this case 3 back links to presentationrentals’ website.

Sfowler said it’s a bad habit for many directories.

I think for many people they are getting new directory fatigue where everyday someone pops up with a new directory to promote.

In my opinion you should submit to a directory because you believe it will be of some benefit to your company for not just for back links and pr value. I have seen some directories with pr5 pr6 that look awful.

I have personally chosen a cgi based directory because I believe long term it will enable me to target specific areas for marketing my directory, for example I will be able to see if customers have clicked through my directory for audiovisual equipment rental and found presentationrentals site. I then will approach presentationrentals and say “x” number of people have searched for and clicked on your link if you had a sponsored link it could potentially provide you with “y”.
