As presentationrentals posted, Google has picked up the cgi of my directory
www.orangefish-directory.co.uk which Google has shown in this case 3 back links to presentationrentals’ website.
Sfowler said it’s a bad habit for many directories.
I think for many people they are getting new directory fatigue where everyday someone pops up with a new directory to promote.
In my opinion you should submit to a directory because you believe it will be of some benefit to your company for not just for back links and
pr value. I have seen some directories with pr5 pr6 that look awful.
I have personally chosen a cgi based directory because I believe long term it will enable me to target specific areas for marketing my directory, for example I will be able to see if customers have clicked through my directory for audiovisual equipment rental and found presentationrentals site. I then will approach presentationrentals and say “x” number of people have searched for and clicked on your link if you had a sponsored link it could potentially provide you with “y”.
