Is the googlebot a slow learner?

This month it seems that the googlebot has been crawling my site just about every other day; and yet I have only one page indexed. It's a new site and fairly small, I'm just wondering is this a normal practice.

For a new site this is not normal but you must have some back links from High PR sites.

Web pages don't get fully indexed on the first couple of crawls.
googlebot will pop in to check you out for a little while, then eventually you will get hit with a deep crawl, shortly after that you should be in the index

They have to check whether you will really be staying, or this is just experimental or what.
