Default Google downgrading Bloggers?

It's interesting that when I search for a random blog (um, lets say 'horseshoe blog') the google results do not show any results from Google's own Blogger.com.

Also, when I search for my own blog, there are many entries pointing to the blog, and actual blog is way down the list. The blog entry itself has no description.

Has the big G downgraded or even removed blogs from Blogger.com in their SERPS?

That's an excellent question! I'd be very interested to here the answer.

You can find results, but you're right. You rarely see them at the top of the heap. I just did a search for "games blog" and I found a Blogger.com result on the second page...

I just started a blog on blogger.com a week ago to copliment my website so I have a vested interest in the answer.

I always heard they were fantastic for search engines. Fresh, updated content...

Of course, Google would have control over the description and title. They probably pull that from your account... if you have a title and description.

I would assume Blogger.com would be Optimized pretty well for Google's Bots:)

Interesting Question,

Default Google downgrading Bloggers?

Wouldn't newer blogs take a while to move up in the SERPS?

I have a blogger.com blog called Pre Employment Screening Blog. When I search this term in quotes, my blog does show up on the first page. However, there are other pages that place higher in the rankings, but only (I think) because my blog is relatively new and still has a page rank of zero. The other pages that show up higher already have a page rank, so its only natural that they are showing up above my page.

In terms of newer blogs, I think we have to wait for the next google reindexing.

Welcome to WPW Content King!

It will take time. And a Blog probably isn't treated any different than a regular website. You have to have good Inbound Links, keywords etc, etc...

I think "DriWashSolutions" is talking about blogs in general whether their old or new.

Are blogs ranked lower just for being a blog?

This is probably one of those questions that only Google knows and will just become a rumor...

....

Default Blog Comments (comments in blogs)

No matter what Google (or any other SE) does with our blog pages, I would recommend that if you have a comment system setup, that you keep a tight eye on it.

I've had a couple spammers find my blog and begin posting their pages to it. And even though I require a valid e-mail address, who's to say they're providing their own? I've had to remove about 4 or 5 of them a week ago, but the spammers were quite busy over the Thanksgiving holiday. Yesterday I took down about another 10 in just 3-4 days. After doing that, I guess they have my pages being watched 'cause 2 more appeared within an hour.

The only thing I could think of to do at that time was to remove the entire comment system... :( I just don't have the time or inclination to remove (possibly automated) comments from my system on a daily basis.

If you don't keep an eye on your comments, and they get spammed, it could bring not only your blog pages down, but your site as well. After all, how many people don't involve their blogs in their site's linking structure?

I'm not even sure that if a comment system has an IP blocking feature that it couldn't be spoofed.

I'll let you know something else useful about blogs ... they're a good way to find out which months have been indexed.

I have my blog archive each month. Here's what I show now:

Main Blog - PR4
Dec 2004 - Gray
Nov 2004 - PR0
Oct 2004 - PR0
Sep 2004 - pr2
Aug 2004 - PR3
Jul 2004 - PR3
Jun 2004 - pr2
May 2004 - PR3
Apr 2004 - PR3

I really need to blog some more and get these up to PR4s.

Keith:

here's my results for the archive:

07/01/2004 - 07/31/2004 PR 2
08/01/2004 - 08/31/2004 PR 3
09/01/2004 - 09/30/2004 PR 2
10/01/2004 - 10/31/2004 PR 0
11/01/2004 - 11/30/2004 PR 0
12/01/2004 - 12/31/2004 PR 0
Main Blog Page: PR 4

Interesting how the PR of the archives is decreasing.

DriWashSolutions, another good record indicator of archives. Cool.

It'll be even better on the next PR update. That'll be when our PR0s show some green. At least your December has already been indexed; mine might or might not make it into the next PR round.

If PR updates are every 3 months (give or take) like they used to be, then its not too far off now ...

And because our PR0s don't count yet, our numbers are really:

G D
3 - . Apr
3 - . May
2 - . Jun
3 2 . Jul
3 3 . Aug
2 2 . Sep

I'm wondering now, in 6-12 months, if we'll continue to see patterns like these? If so, will probably be coincidence.

Now, if we could get 25-50 good and relative sites to link to each archive page ...
