Default Microsoft takes on Google

Microsoft has just unveiled the new version of MSN Search. It will be released later this year and Microsoft believes it will beat Google.

The Search Engine Optimization team at Abbey Internet took MSN Search (beta) for a test-drive, but we think Google is still king.

What do WebProWorld users think?

Microsoft's history is repleat with taking an existing technology and competing later and better. That is what happened with Netscape wasn't it?

Many examples can be cited.

That is just "Business Physics" surrounding mass and momentum.

The beta is showing far more links for my site than Google, Yahoo, Alta Vista, or AllTheWeb. They all report about 270 links for my site, and I know that is way low. (Google shows 50 in the sample.) MSN-b shows a total of 774 links (which I think is the most accurate count) but will display only 230 or so using the link:http://www.mysite.com command.

I've added at least 100 links in the past 2 months, and only a dozen or so have shown up in the other SEs. But, MSN beta shows lots of them, including sites added only about a week ago.

Oh yeah, for my most competitive keyphrase, I'm #1 on MSN-b out of 1.2 million (#55 on GG). So, I'm hoping MSN does kill the king. :-)

Microsoft is never unique - they only come out with good copies. Windows was a copy of the Mac OS, MSNBC was a copy of CNN, etc. They may compete with Google, but never rival them.
