Hi,
I launched my website, http://business-romania.blogspot.com about two months ago...I know this is quite a short time, but anywayz.... Google gave me a page rank of 4/10, did not include me in the directory and if i search on google for "business romania blog" my blog appears on the ninth page or something, even though on the first page there appear a lot of pages that link to me. On the other hand, on Yahoo I am on first page for the same search and until yesterday i was on first page even for "business in romania" search (now i am on second position. Can anybody explain why this is happening? |

PR of 4 is very good, especially for a new site!
Google's directory is actually from DMOZ. You have to get listed there - www.dmoz.org Getting into DMOZ is difficult. Read up about it first. Make sure you find the right location in the directory and submit only once. If you submit again, they put you back at the bottom of the pile again. They can take many months to include you. (The last response I got from them said I was in the queue, and to check back again in 6 months). |

I've just checked your search and found you in position #2. But, fluctuations do happen and you could be in position for one search and then search again within minutes and be in another position.
Are people actually searching for that phrase? How many people besides yourself come to your site using that search? Are there other searches you could improve your position on that could bring you more traffic?

ice,
You may be right, but that wasn't the question. Correct me if I'm wrong - it does happen sometimes, but rarely - the objective of a blog is cover as many topics related to your business as possible. A good blog will create a single page for one post while keeping the post on the main page as long as possible. This gives you the opportunity to target a phrase in your 200 or so word post. Therefore, my question is valid and the answer would indicate topics he could write articles about and have pointed to his blog or business site. If people are looking for it then use it to your advantage. Just because you think one search is important doesn't mean you're always correct. Learn to use human behavior to make your business stronger. The average blogger has become a "wantabe". They want to be a write but they focus upon short editorials. Then they forget to watch the stats and see what people are looking for. If you're using a blog system that doesn't show you the stats and keywords used to find your blog get another system.

Well, actually I look on what people search for when comming to my site...most of the search for specific topics.
For example, they search about one company's investment in Romania and they found my blog. Almost nobody searches for general topics like "business in romania". This way, I can't really predict through keywords or descritpions the behaviour of my visitors. |
