Default Google's link command now showing high numbers of links

Anyone notice that the link:http://www.domainname.com command is now showing what I believe to be the correct amount of links.

Last week the backlinks shown using link:http://www.t-gone.com was 267 as of today it is showing 4,720.

This has not affected my position in the SERP's at all though, in fact I have moved down one position this week for my main keyword search.

Google, on purpose, does not show the correct number of backlinks.

Try searching at Yahoo! for a more accurate list of backlinks.

My 59 are mostly internal links! (huh) Yes, still 59, and I know it doesn't show all, but usually the 59 in the 1 - 40 of about 59 linking to blah usually changes....... and I know for a fact that I have new IBLs, even on high PR pages....

Are you suggesting Google knows there are a lot more backlinks but only displays a subset? I wonder how Google decides which backlinks it's going to include in the results and which its not.

What query do you use at yahoo to get a list of backlinks. link:www.yourdomain.com doesn't work.

It's gotta have the http:// in front.

Google is still not showing the "correct" number of backlinks. Try searching for link:http://www.yourdomain.com at Yahoo! and then at Google and you'll see what I mean. Yahoo! shows more backlinks.

That's exactly what I'm saying, and they've been doing this for quite some time now.

I noticed a HUGE change yesterday for about a half hour....

The term "website marketing" had 25 Million related sites for about a half hour and then returned to the usuall 8-9 Million after that....

I chalked it up as a fluke - but I wonder what that was all about???

Yahoo is reporting 1,100 incoming links using the link:http://www.t-gone.com command. This is the amount of links it has been showing over the last couple of weeks.

Google is still showing 4,720 incoming links. They are showing site wide links that I have from a couple of sites.

Definitely was only showing 267 links last week and these sitewide links have been in place for over a month.

I wonder if this will affect PR at all...

Hi,

I just found this place 20 minutes ago.

Our website has been out on the web for two months now. I have seen reports of 570 links, Google has 148, Yahoo has 105. We are still not even ranked in the top 500 for most of our keywords.

Can anyone help me with this?

Default How does Google determine what backlinks to count?

Over the past two years, I have gotten the number of confirmed reciprocal links to Designing Online, over the 1300 mark. At the same time, Google went from showing 600+ links a year ago to only showing 321 links for many months now. Even better, Alexa just dropped me from 629 to 231 back links. I can't even begin to consider the reasonaing behind these changes.

As a better gauge, Yahoo shows 4,180 back links and Alta Vista shows 4,660.

Overall, the sites main page has a Google PR6 and the Alexa Rating is just over 50,000. Ironically, as Google and Alexa show less and less sites linked to Designing Online, our traffic has been growing these last few weeks...with much of the traffic from linked sites.

Bottom line, I'm starting to believe all this Google and Alexa stuff is totally invalid and unwarranted to use as a guide and/or it reports today to something that might have been true 90 days ago. Do these figures ever even out to being realistic? Is this stuff even worth tracking, knowing how totally inaccurate it can be?

Just curious.
