Default Page title, description disappear from listing

I recently started having trouble with my listing in Google. When I search for "kansas city lofts", my website (www.kc-lofts.com) is the third one to appear in the results. However, only the URL is showing up. The page title and description/page text doesn't show up. It used to display this information. This problem has been happening for the last 3-4 weeks. Many other pages that appear for other search terms appear correctly. Any idea what might be going on and how to fix it?

Thanks.

- Rob

When Google shows a URL with no title or description it is an indication that Google knows of that page (probably through a link) but has not indexed it.

In the case of your non-indexed page showing up in the serps, I would have to suppose that it is ranking for that term based solely on anchor text links pointing to that page.

There have been several complaints from webmasters that some pages that were previously fully indexed are now showing up as a URL only. I know this to be true on a couple of sites that I monitor, and suspect that Google may be cleaning up thier index a bit. At least some of the pages that I have seen removed and not respidered are old pages which have not been updated in some time, so that could be a factor.

Its called 'partial indexing' - do a search here and on Google for it.

It usually means that Google knows about your URL nut has not yet crawled it (eg new site) or hadtrouble crawling it last time they visited (eg robot.txt file; server down; host blocked spider etc)

The same happened to my site July - August of this year. I sent emails to Google support & eventually got a reply that agreed with cbp's diagnosis.

The only way to fix it is to:
  • Wait for Google to revisit your site & index it again
  • Submit your URL to directories & other places so that Googlebot can find it and reindex
It took about 6 weeks for my site to be reindexed to fix this problem. In the meantime I kept my PR & place in the SERPs.
