Default Google recognizing internal links

When i check backlinks for a competotor in prog, i noticed that Google is recognizing some of their internal links as links on 2nd level, 3rd level, and maybe even 4th level pages. My pages don't seem to be doing this.

I havbe also noticed when checking backlinks in Google that some of my internal links show up as backlinks, it seems to be random.

does anyone have any tips on getting the most out of these internal links? Why do some count and some don't.

Thanks1

Google has always recognised imternal links.

Ignore the Google backlink sample they choose to show for a site - it has no relationship what-so-ever to what they count for PR and use for rankings.

It is random, I think. This may just be their little joke, it has that sort of feel about it. The only thing you can be certain of is that a link exists if they show it.

This is the way most try to see backlinks:
link:www.vectortec.com
it shows 25 linking to www.vectortec.com
Of course also showing your links mixed in

Now use this:
"+www.vectortec.+com" -site:www.vectortec.com
It is also counting the same site if it's on more than one page. It is set to not show your site in the results also. I'm not sure how accurate this would be, but it does show more sites than the usual way of Link:www.mydomain.com

I haven't looked into this any deeper than just showing you this. Looks interesting though.

Thanks for this, but having checked one of my sites, it came back with 'results 1-10 of about 75 linking to...', then click on 'repeat the search with the omitted results included' and it says 'results 1-10 of 65!' Where did the other 10 go?

I've tried it on a few, and the 'repeat the search with the omitted results included' always seems to bring back less results!!?!!?
