Why is Google digging up an OLDcached version of my page?
Question: What's going on? Google keeps going back and getting an old cached version of my webpage.
When I checked my SERP position Sunday, the cached version was dated 9-16.
When I checked my SERP position Monday, the cached version was dated 9-18 and was the current version I have online.
When I checked my SERP position Tuesday, (today) the cached version was dated 9-16 again and was the old version again.
Like I said, what's going on? Google keeps going back and pulling up an out of date cached version of my webpage? Why?

google did the same thing last week, too
I also noticed the same thing happening towards the end of the week last week, too. Old, then new, then old again.

I have noticed the same thing with my sites as well. Thought i was going a little crazy - had to double check my pages :)
Seems something is going on in the land of search engines :)

I believe it has something to do with the servers that the SE are using. I experience this occasionally after changes to my site but it only last for a few days and then the old page is completely gone.
I believe the engines use multiple servers and for whatever reason switch back and forth.
I have seen where the house next door to me will show completely different search results for identical keywords, and will also show cached pages on one machine and the new pages on another.
If I am not mistaken, Google has at least 10 servers and I have no idea how many Yahoo utilizes.

I was in the same boat last year.
All you got to do is build plenty of inbound links until your latest copy is indexed and stored in google for good.
It took me about 3 months to get over it !
Its time to build links aggressively from link pages that have high PR (4,5,6 ..)

This kind of things keep happening 'cause everytime we access these pages thru toolbar, it connects you to a different data servers depending on the load. More chances that we will experience this kind of things when google is still updating the pages across the data centers.
One thumb rule:
Have Patience!!!

If we could harness all the time, effort and energy that is being put into link exhanges around the world...we'd have a man on Mars by now!
What a shame to have to waste all the energy on clogging the internet with links and linkpages and directories!

My webtrends software sometimes reports something like "cache:a-i7stbtegkj:www.mydomain.com/" as a keyword Google is referring for. This sometimes amounts to about 100 referrals per day.
Is this the same problem you guys are discussing?
I noticed that the above resembles part of the URL when you click on a Google chached link. I tried inserting the above, but the page doesnt exist.
Does anybody have any ideas why this is happening?

Too a point yes. These links, link pages, etc are Google's "human editors". As "bad sites" slowly get weeded out due to their being "undesireable" link partners, they'll have to change or die.

hi. its purely down to which server you hit. i have a new site and have watched closely the indexing of my pages over the last 2 weeks. One day i had 7 pages in + delighted, the next day back to 2. But once all servers are updated, the 7 appeared again.. so a few days patience is all that was needed for me
