Default Google Falling

For the first time in years - I've been hearing negitive comments about Google and the search giants search results....

People are talking that there search is getting worse....

The fact that they are now a public company, revenues are more important than they have ever been in the past and they are really pushing there adwords and adsence programs......

Putting cash before quality could due them in....

I have noticed a big increase in my visitors from Yahoo.....

There search listings seem to be more relevant these days....

Is Google Falling?

Default a grain of salt please

The only people with negative comments about google are webmasters on this and other forums.

Google is still far and away the #1 engine.

I agree that google is still far and away #1.

However, I have also seen much more negative talk about google and more positive talk about Yahoo.

I like them both but tend to use google more but I find myself using yahoo more and more.

In my office everyone uses google. I have been very vigilant about this for a few years, looking for some trend away from them. In my world, there is no trend at all.

I've never seen any evidence of the "surge in Yahoo" or any other search engine some people report. My stats for referring search engines for this month look about like most months:

Google 72.1%
MSN 14.1%
Yahoo 7.3%
AOL 3.2%
Unknown search engines 0.8%
Netscape 0.6%
Ask Jeeves 0.3%
AltaVista 0.3%
Dogpile 0.2%
Earth Link 0.1%

Less than 0.1%
Hotbot
MetaCrawler
Google (Images)
Mamma
Alexa
InfoSpace
Sympatico
Ask Jeeves UK
AllTheWeb
Teoma
ix quick
Search.com
Excite
Go2Net

I try to spread my criticism of SE's (and praise) around. Depends on how much caffeine I've had, too.

Since Google went public, I've seen no difference in traffic or placements. My experience with Yahoo/MSN is that their spider has always been notoriously slow in reindexing. They still list page titles from many months ago. My feeling is content hasn't been reindexed otherwise placements would have changed, but not complaining because for the moment they are good placements.

I will say that for the main business I'm in, concentrating on Google is key, because our potential customers are b-2-b, and Google tends to be their SE of choice. For domestic consumers, Yahoo and MSN are the place you really want to be.
