Default basics

Hi Guys I am doing some research on correctly optimising websites. I wonder if any of you help.
1) If you can get hold of a top level generic name, should you. How important are they.
2) How does google or yahoo prioritise domains, are all uk domains classed as equal
.org.uk, .co.uk, .me.uk, ,ltd.uk etc.
3) If you have a generic name lets say ww.genericname.com and you want to associate a phrase with this say “my generic name”. Is it better to do
3a) www.my.genericname.com or
3b) www.genericname.com/my
3c) Any examples of this.
4) When optimising the page for this should the title tags, meta tags etc. just have “my generic site”, or should they include other text?
Some one types in google “my generic name” and finds us, hooray! To make revenue we provide a description to partner sites. In that description should we include “my generic name” and should we make it a link.
Any examples would be gratefully received.

Thank you in anticipation
Mikey

If your targeting a keyword phrase like:
mygenericname

having a URL like www.mygenericname.com
with on page links to pages with my.genericname will definetly increase the possiblity of getting visitors.....

based on the fact that nbot only do you have a page with the keywords being mentioned, you have a page that referres to other pages with similar content...

genericname.com
mygenericname

should both be fine...

be sure to optimize your meta's and titles for these keywords..
