Default PR of 6 on all pages?

A question.

The united utilities home page www.unitedutilities.com has a PR of 6. This is quite understandable considering the site and the incoming links.

When navigating the site, I guess its database driven, all pages show as PR6. (google toolbar)

That PR6 seems to be helping to push these pages into good positions when searching for various key terms. Try "plumbing insurance" there are many others.

When doing the same search on www.prsearch.net the same pages show as PR0. I appreciate that prsearch is not a google tool, but my question is: What is the true PR of these subsidiary pages. I would have thought 3, 4 or 5. Certainly not 6 and equally unlikely to be 0.

Any page can have any PageRank although it is normal for the index page to have the higher PR because that is most often linked to.

But there is nothing that says that an interior page cannot have the same or a higher PR than the index page, it strictly depends on the number of links pointing at the page. Remember Google is computing the PageRank of pages not sites.

I think you answered your own question, if I understood it correctly. Also, the fine print on that site is:

"PRSearch.net is in no way affiliated or sponsored by Google."

Wasn't familiar with prsearch.net until now. Fascinating tool. I did a little experimenting and discovered pages with 56 inbound links getting a PR of 0 and pages with 1 link getting a PR of 5.

However, it appears that search results are the same as Google's (this is to be expected) and the PRs are correct. What I find interesting is that the page rank doesn't appear to have as much effect as I would expect on SERP order (and neither does SEO on the pages I'm analyzing). Pages with a PR of 0 are coming in 1st and 2nd compared to those with a PR of 7.

The mystery of Google continues...

Whenever you have a page that starts with a ?, it always gets the same PR as its parent page. For example, a page named links.asp?c=33 will have the same PR as links.asp. That's been my experience anyway.
