Getting better page ranking on regional google sites

If you have an online business that you wish to advertise globally, what do you need to do to get better rankings on regional google sites, ie

How do I get my site to appear when someone chooses to search on google.co.uk with 'pages from uk'? I get a better ranking when I search google.com.au. ' pages from Australia'...

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rankings up on local google searches around the world?
