Target: current or new? What's better for the linked page?

Search engine wise, is it better for a linked page/site to open in the same window instead of a new one or doesn't matter?

I came accross this site that had a PR6 and its exchange directory, which opened in a new window, had no PR. I was wondering if it had something to do with the fact that it opened in a blank page.

Any thoughts?

It doesn't matter. The reason the exchange directory had PR0 wasn't because it opened in a new page but because it had few or no incoming links to that page.
