Default Multiple links across one domain

There has been several debates on having multiple links pointing to a site from one domain.

I would like some opinions about this issue. We will be receiving a large number of links from a partner and I'm curious about it's effect.

The situation first: We will have a few thousand links, all going to different pages within our site. Why would Google devalue any of those links? They will all be on relevant pages linking to relevant pages, and not the same URL repeated over and over.

Also if your consensus is that they do devalue those links, approximately how much and will they be worth anything at all?

IMO, the SE shouldn't care if there are other links going to other places on my site.

Comments?

My experience has been that multiple links from the same domain do little to boost the PR of the landing page, but the anchor text of all those links is simply amazing for getting high rankings in the SERPS.

I would tend to agree with you on that matter. PR doesn't really concern me all that much. It's the anchor text for SERP's and the traffic we will get from it anyway. Thanks for the response.

I've tested/researched this, and even if you have 20,000 anchor text links on 20,000 pages to one site from another single domain it won't help you one bit.

The backlinks might show up, but it won't help rankings.

You're better off getting 5 links from 5 different domains to your site than getting 100,000 links from 100,000 pages all on one domain to your site.

bhartzer, okay...how did you come to that determination.

And is it based on each page of my site or just the site as a whole? We'll have links pointing to a large number of different pages on our site.

I've done a bit of testing myself. Here's a real-world example. About 3 months ago I added a brand new section to one of my sites and placed a link to its entry page on the home page.

After 3 or 4 days I checked the rankings for the target key phrase. It came in at # 206 out of 4 million+ search results. This ranking held steady for the next couple of weeks while I was busy working on other projects.

I then placed the same link in the footer of all the pages (800+) of the site. Less than 48 hours later the same page came up #2 for the same search, and it's still there today.

I have had similar experiences as well but this one was quite dramatic. There is nothing like the power of anchor text (either internal or external) to drive rankings.
