Default Backlinks??

Are back links the same as one way links?

I've been reading a bit about high PR based on quality one way links.

What are one way links? Is it the link from your website placed on another without reciprocating?

Thanks,
Sunfluer - relatively new at the PR game.

Default here's your answer

You answered your own question. A "one-way link" is a non-reciprocal backlink. Its a link that points to your site without you pointing a link back at their site.

PageRank will not be affected by one way linking, but SERP possitioning may be. Backlinking may cause the value of the links to be diminished a little.

From my experience pages with a few outgoing links actually rank higher than pages with 0 outbound links. Its almost like google wants to see a few links per page.

If you question is non reciprocal link is better than reciprocal link, yes (for my experience). Try to get non reciprocal links, still from some directories you can get them.

Non-reciprocal links are great, and reciprocal links are great as well. I have several sites and control dozens of client sites that are in the top 10 (with many #1's) for some very competitive search terms as a direct result of high-quality reciprocal links.

The only advantage of a one-way inbound link over a reciprocal link is you aren't sending the other webmaster any of your traffic. For getting top search engine rankings there is no difference whatsoever.

The disadvantage of one-way links is they're much harder to get than reciprocals, especially when your site is new and needs the links the most.

My advice is to start off with an aggressive reciprocal link exchange campaign and transition to getting one-ways after the site is established.
