Default Strange Update Results

Ever since the last update, I have noticed that google shows backlinks on banned websites that have no pages in the index and no PR, but used to be in the index and have lots of links coming into them. Since I have never observed this phenomenon before this last google whateveryouwanttocallit I think that their algo has changed to show backlinks even on domains that are banned.

Any other thoughts....

Whateveryouwanttocallit, there's something screwy going on with backlinks. I'm trying to figure out whether the backlinks that are showing up are themed or not.

Have you noticed anything along these lines? I've noticed sites that had, for example, 50 internal pages (all PR5) that used to show up as backlinks but now only 3 show up. Could this be theming?

I have seen similar effects wit internal backlinks. Like google is going to stop showing so many internal backlinks and show more non internal backlinks reguardless of the page rank. There was definately a big change.

Try Bruce Clay's link analyzer http://www.bruceclay.com/web_rank.htm (about a third of the way down the page - Step 2).

It's free and gives up to 60 links per SE. It shows Google, Alta Vista, Inktomi, and MSN.

I'd be interested in comments as to its accuracy. It seems pretty good to me, but I'm new to the backlinks game.

What I don't understand is how he shows Google links that Google doesn't show.

He is probably using queries like @mysite.com or +"mysite.com" these can also help to show more backlinks than the google results show.
