Default google - pr or not

i am currently trying hard to get good links with sites that have a higher pr value than my own, will this higher pr value of theirs rub off on my site?
i have seen some sites with thousands of links on the links page, with a pr of 3? ------is it how many or the quality?

Hi Shifty,

Quality over quantity - but quantity won't hurt.

Default PR rubs off

Yes, the higher the PR of the incoming link page, the more effect it will have on your PR.

I notice you refer to your site's PR! It is, in fact, the PR of each individual page.

PageRank will transfer. but keep in mind that pagerank is not actual rank. Make sure the links you get have the anchor text for the search terms you are targeting in the link text.

The PR you see in the toolbar is the PR of the page you are viewing, and is indicative of the PageRank of that page, but you should know that the PR transferred to your page from a page with many links on it is divided among all the links, so if there are a thousand links, your link would be worth next to nothing as far as PR goes.

If you are referring to relevancy as quality ... Just go for quality ... It doesnt harm you to have link from other non-relevant websites also.

It will be alright to have a link from a page with more than 50 links ... unless its a link farm. Forget about the page rank being split across the 50 sites.

HI Sudhani

Are you saying that you advocate getting links from pages with thousands of links on them? While an inbound link will not hurt you the PR passed will be infinitesmal, and IMO simply not worth it.

I would also worry about pages with thousands of links being seen as a link farm and sure would not link back.

Default pr or not

thank you all for your comments so far.......i am trying hard to make sense of all of this SEO stuff, its quite head wrecking at times...but what i see at the moment is, if you can get reciprocal links, and good ones at that, to sites with good content, who have limited outgoing links, with a good pr then do so. Because as i see it you get them free today but they will start costing you big money soon. or am i wrong?

Shifty,

Quality links are so worth it they routinely cost between $25 and $32 per link! This is for links from a pr 4 or above.
