Default Benefit of outbound links

Is there any additional google benefit by having links to related sites on your website?

The "very best practice" two per page to sites that are:

1. highly "page specific" topically oriented thus a mixed of site links throughout your website.

2. geared to trusted sites... more commonly referred to as authority sites and/or expert sites.

The short answer, I would say, is no. However, forget Google and link to pages/sites that help your visitors.
