Default Privacy Infringements Regarding Gmail..

I am sorry, I really cannot see what all the fuss is about. Granted, Google will effectively be reading through your messages, but at the end of the day, it is a machine. As long as this is not abused, which I have every faith that it will not, I cannot see a problem with a thoughtless spider reading confidential email messages.

On a seperate note, would someone please send me a Gmail account.. :P

I agree with you completely. Plus where else are you going to get 1gb of email storage for free. Its also not like you have to sign up, if people dont like the idea, then dont sign up for it.

Running smtp and pop server on your own private web server at home, like I do, maybe? ;)

Yes, of course, pedstersplanet, but for those people who don't have that option, this is brilliant. You have to recieve an awful lot of email to fill up such an amount of storage.

Especially, taking into acount that most people who use free web-based email accounts use Hotmail, which offers a comparatively tiny amount (2MB).
