Default Google listing

Can anyone who is interested take a quick look at my company website and tell me why this doesn't show up in the google directory and some tips on how to get it higher on the list? The web address is www.ultimatedautm.com The key searching words that people look for will be satellite modem, satellite communications modem, s-tec.

Thank you in advance.

At least you were No.1 on Google when I searched for 'ultimatedatum', but seeing as this is your domain name, you would hope that this would be the case! 'Ultimate datum' also produced a reasonable set of results which mentioned your site.

One thing I did notice, is that you're not listed on the Open Directory Project (www.dmoz.org). I suggest you submit your site to the appropriate category. Google looks more favourably on sites that have a listing on the ODP. Another suggestion would be to have more searchable content on your homepage, and last but by no means least, include decriptive ALT tags on all your images.

Wishing you all the best

Paul

Ditto to what Paul said about www.dmoz.org . You will also find that this aids in your listings with other search engines such as MSN, Alta Vista, etc.

Because Google spiders so many millions of other sites, it is also a good idea to get some of your links wandering through hyperspace. The more times you are listed elsewhere, the more it will increase your ranking.

I also think that you need to have more content on your homepage for Google to pick up.

Good luck !

Michaels
Me thinks you confused ...

You are in the Google index
You are not in the Google directory
- they are different things
(as Paul said, you need to submit via DMOZ to get in directory)

Michaels, another thought after seeing you are in Oz.... are you with one of the smaller ISP's or with someone like Bigpond? If you are with Bigpond or know of anyone that is & who wouldnt mind you using some of their allotted webspace, put a mirror to your index page there.

I have a WW3 site, and searching for keyword WW3 will give me a #21 ranking in the Google index & directory (the actual WW3 site). If you do a country specific search www.google.com.au & search only within Oz, it will bring me up a #1 ranking, but it will be the mirror site I put up on Bigpond.

It also appears to me you are excluding a lot of local hits. When people in Oz look for products they will usually do a local search also, because of the horrible $$ exchange rate with other countries. Try slotting the word Australia, or even a capital city, to collect those local hits. Apart from sales, those local hits can also be reciprocal links.
