Can listings hurt PR?

Hi and forgive me if this has been covered, I didn't find it in the topics. I'm wondering if listings in directories and less known search engines with a lower ranking can hurt mine. Does anyone know?

Your site cannot be penalized for incoming links. Google, has stated that you cannot control who links to your site therefore you cannot be penalized for it. But, if you link to one of these directories, if it is a penalized, or banned site, or using spam of some kind it is possible, not meaning that it will happen, but possible for your site to be penalized. So you should really be selective when you link to a site. Make sure the site has at least some Page Rank, and look over the site to see if they are using any method that would be considered spam. If their page rank is zero, or you suspect something, dont link to them.
