New rookie here. I've had my new site up and running for about 2 months now. Submitted it to several search engines, ect, ect. But still it never shows up in a general search. I've seen sites newer than mine that get thousands of visitors....what's up? Any help that I understad would be appreciated.

When you Edit Profile, for your signature, make sure you have key phrases in your link. For example, it's better to have Handmade Duck and Goose Calls than just a plain url like http://www.kdcalls.com/
After that I would get listed in as many directories as possible. This will give you a higher rating with search engines. Here's the link to DMOZ, click on suggest URL to add your site. http://www.dmoz.com/Shopping/Recreat...ng/Game_Calls/ I found the category I think your site is best suited for; however, you should feel free in looking around to see if there's a better spot. Before you suggest URL, be sure to look at what the others posted, to get a good feel of what you want to say about your site. Be sure to spend some time reading the message boards here, as there are a lot of gems, buried in these posts. Good luck! |

Ok, Now how in the heck did you get the "handmade duck & goose Calls" to hyperlink to my website. I've done on frontpage but how is it done here or any other forum for that matter. Thanks

The reason being is the some Search Engines will treat a Url with the www and one without as two seperate Urls. It would benefit you to have the www as a consistant part of your Urls. Some engines may resolve the two as being the same, but that could take time ... sometimes a long time. Quote:
Luke mentioned DMOZ. That is a good place to start. One thing about DMOZ is to make sure you read their instructions thouroughly before submitting to them. Look into other Directories that you can get listed in as well. The more the better. Directories are usually set up similarly like DMOZ is in categories and often mimic the DMOZ structure. Avoid spamming places like guestbooks and even forums just to get your link out there. The time spent in securing quality links would be time well spent. I do agree to some extent that signatures in forums can be helpful, but they would be more helpful if the forum was "related" to the site you are promoting. Quality linking is a slow process, so do not get discouraged. Just keep on pluggin away at it and adding to it day in and week out. Never stop though ... you can never have enough. You should also look into your local Chamber of Commerce. See if they have a website. I think some of them will list you on their site because you are a local business. Get together with some sporting good or hunting stores too ... exchange some links with them. They will provide your visitors with some useful resources also. If you are into writing articles about your calls or maybe you have some good experiences with duck hunting in general, then put the pen to paper and submit them to some other sites (as well as adding them to your own). The articles usually will carry your byline and a link back to your site. These can prove to be very valuable links as well as being a quality and related link back to your site. Happy hunting! |

Another thing is as you get more and more into it and establish yourself with your own peers, they are more likely to link to you naturally ... even without an exchange. They will see your product, find it to be a good resource and add it to their own sites (without you even asking). This is an ideal situation, and one that you should be building towards. |

Before you do it, see that your meta tag and descriptions are properly filled in its respective place of your site pages. Try once to find the worthiness. Do not expect a miracle overnight. It might take anywhere between four to six weeks, generally it is listed on robo finding you at its first visit. All the best. |
