Default Big Web Traps for Google Spider

I’ve heart about dynamic link creation and how google was (still is?!) vulnerable to that. However, I have never seen so many complete Huge Fake Directories traps with thousand of entries.

One example is http://www.trafficscour.com. They even advert the Google trapping service openly! I have found it when I was searching Google for “Interest Rates History” and ended up at this page http://www.mortgages-approved.us/dir...ry/index.shtml

Any comments? Someone should write an article on that.

There are all types of SEM (search engine manipulation) softwares out there, some creating directories, and others creating doorway pages, both of which have a similar purpose.

If you want to see a good example of SE manipulation that works goto google and search for sliding door hardware. Click on the first nonsponsored listing (Blain Window) and move your mouse off the screen as fast as possible (there is an on mouseover redirect).

If you moved your mouse to the top of the screen, you can click view, then source and see what the page contains behind the scenes.

I am not sure what software was used to create this structure, but I have seen many like it. Hundreds, if not thousands, of dynamically generated keyword rich pages are created and uploaded to the server. They have a complex linking structure and use Synonyms to replace words so that the content appears unique. This effectively "tricks" google into thinking that the page is relevant and deserves a high ranking.

There are also server-side scripts that will create dynamically generated pages based on the keywords in the inbound link that the spider used to find the site/page.

I do not believe these methods are considered to be ethical SEO and the benefits of using them are likely to be short-lived.

Default Lock the door!

Lock the door!

Google will block cheaters.

So will other major engines.

So these method may only work for a short time. if at all.

Default Google's pretty smart

What this comes down to is that Google is smarter than you are. Eventually they'll catch on just like they did with putting white text on a white background. When they do catch up, these sites are in trouble.

It's like the sites that are now using white images on white background to put hidden links/content on sites (they put the content in the alt tag). Eventually Google's going to start reading images and they just might not tell us they're doing it. When they do, these people are going to get hammered.

For SEO, always stick with what's honest. You won't get punished and don't have to worry about it. Plus, nobody likes internet spammers, they don't do anyone any good. Just provide good useful content and you'll eventually be rewarded.

Hi Thomas,
the interesting part is, that the actual home page has PR=5, where the higher ranked redirecting page is only PR=4.

Any explanation to this phenomenon?

Hi Thomas.

Did you see the "Now Loading" page when you moved the mouse off the screen? I did and curously viewed the source for it and then the source for the final landing page and saw two sources.

For one I noticed the following inside head tags:
<meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache">
<meta name="distribution" content= "Global">
<meta name="robots" content="all">

And down at bottom of that page:
<!-- Sliding Door Hardware, vinyl replacement window noise, door hardware and door hook, how to restore door hardware,
aluminum windows miami double hung, and how to wrap window in aluminum on Blainewindow.com. 004284 -->

The source for the other file (the landing index page) contained no content at all to include keyword phrases!

Not strange at all :-)
Google does not look at PageRank alone when determining search results. PR is only one of many, many factors in Googles algorytm.

Default hmmmm

The worst of it is they got the idea from the proliferation of real directory pages throughout the SERPs now.
With your own paid listings on the other page...
They beat you for position in the free search and charge you a couple of bucks when a person clicks through.... lovely

Default Short sighted seo

Google and other search engines will catch on to these tricks.

I just hope search engines continue to concentrate on search instead of selling ads. Hopefully the newly heated competition will bring search engine technology to the next level.
