Default Varying PRs?

my site has two different PRS for

http://site.com,

and

http://www.site.com

How is that possible?

Please advice.

Thanks.

Default Differing PRs for urls to same site

Neutral,

It would be expected that different urls could have different PR - _even_ if they actually point to the same site. Generally, you may find that whichever URL is found having the more inbounds (w/ good content, etc) will rank more highly. All in all, select one to promote, and stay with it.

Cheers,

Mark

Default Unclear? Not you, me

Neutral,

No, you were not unclear - I was. I should have said two URLs, even if pointing to [resolving to] the same "PAGE", can have a different PR.

1. There are more factors than just content that go into establishing PR.
- One of those factors is in-bound linking. This is where G decides how many other websites are "voting" for you.
2. On my site, I used to have www.<domain>.com go to the homepage and store.<domain>.com go to the catalog, so different URLs on the same domain can be pointing to same, similar, or different content; which is why G uses the URL to associate in-bound links/PR and not the resulting page (I know I'm omitting alot - correct me if you think important).

Hope I'm less obtuse.

Cheers,

Mark

Hello Neutral,

I am having the exact same problem which has been spoken about fairly often at the G Forum.

the reason why this has happened to me is because 1 incoming link to my site was to http://mysite.com
so it was indexed by google with www and without www.
I also have 2 different PR's for these two sites which are the same.
It has been spoken in other forums that the sites that produce these results may be and I think is penalised for double indexing (mirrored pages).
When I do a search for "mysite" I get double results, one with www and the other without.
I was told to have the sites that link to me change to www. which I have done but am still getting same results from google.
G Forum people told me to contact my server and have http://mysite.com redirected to www.mysite.com.
My server said they would have to do this globally, in other words, no way.
I wrote to G and explained the situation, they requested I read the G Forum.
OK, that's where I became aware of this problem but they have no solution other than a redirect.

So I am afraid the situation for me is hopeless.
I hope you have more luck than I did.

I'm trying to stay on topic here without straying too far, but I've seen some odd results these past few weeks regarding the links going into my site. As of a week or two ago I had a lot more listed when I checked Google, but now when I check for the incoming links there are a lot less, even though the links are still there and the site is still listed on Google as well. Any thoughts?

There has been an update recently, so it might be one of the reasons of different results.
How do you check number of backlinks?

How long ago did your incoming links change to www? I expect it will take a while for Google to catch up. Do you use relative internal links or the full url? If you code all your internal links to the full url then when Google spiders mysite.com it should credit all the links as pointing to www.mysite.com It may take some time but I expect mysite.com will fade away as long as there are no links pointing to it.

You don't get relevant result using this operator. Instead of 'link:' try to use @www.address.com or +www.address.com which are more accurate.
Link operator gives only a part of all backlinks and nowadays it's even difficult to tell what criteria are taken into account.

If you have DNS control for that site, you could simply CNAME mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com. Google is known to then apply the PR for www.mydomain.com to mydomain.com.
