Default Target phrase

I am just starting with AdWords. Do you recommend targeting keyword phrases that are the very most specific (native american opal ring - example) or rather (native american rings)? Thanks! Nicci

Default Keyword choices for Adwords

Both are probably advisable, just as a whole host of additional search phrases are.
One of the secrets to making an Adwords campaign successful is testing an almost unlimited number of keywords to find the ones that produce the clicks. You pay only when there's a click, and you increase the chances of this if you show for 35 keywords instead of 5.

The more phrases you use the better your chances are of getting ad impressions. The more specific your phrases are (multiple words - don't use any single word) the more likely you are to find people who are specifically interested in what you offer.

Using broad or common phrases will do nothing but eat your budget.

Thank you. You have answered my question. I will go for the more targeted phrase. I am starting with a small budget so I can see how it goes. Also, I don't want to spend all of it on phrases I already rank high in either. Nicci
